Argentina’s first ever solar PV tender in which 400MW were awarded by the government, and over 2.8GW of bids offered, has quickly turned the country in one of the hottest solar markets in LATAM. This first round exceeded most expectations so a 1.5 follow-up takes place November 2016. This extra playoff round targets another 200MW of PV capacity from those that can lower their previous bids to $59.75/MWh.
Further tenders are expected in 2017 and beyond through the government’s RenovAr Program, with financial backing through a World Bank guarantee. Solarplaza’s first edition of the PV trade mission and conference El Futuro Solar in June 2016 brought together over 200 of the leading investors, lenders, developers and decision makers active in the Argentinian solar market.
